DATES TO REMEMBER
I am very encouraged with the amount of families touring our school over the last few weeks. I have calculated nearly 50 adults have been on tours so far this year. If you know anyone who is interested in seeing the school or meeting the new Principal, please encourage them to make a time via the office staff.
The first School Council will be held on Monday March 27th in the staffroom at 6:30. At this meeting we hope to elect the executive and leadership for 2017. I will announce the successful people shortly.
Changes for Term 2
We are in the final stages of employing new staff, packing boxes and sorting student lists for the new P/1 grade. In case you have not heard a number of changes will occur at the start of Term 2:
3/ 4S will move to Room 18 in the Babajen
1/ 2E will move from the Babajen to their original room upstairs in the main building
1/ 2 A will be relocated upstairs next to 1/ 2E
A new staff member will be employed to create a new P/1 classroom
The new P/1 classroom will move into 1/2A’s room
A new staff member will be employed to work with Cecilia in 3/ 4 CB
A new staff member will be employed as the Business Manager
If you have a child affected by these changes, you should be notified shortly what is happening (where appropriate).
Hopefully things will be more settled in Term 2!
Don’t forget that Term 1 ends at 2:30pm on Friday March 31st. Term 2 commences on Tuesday April 18th (Monday is a Public Holiday). Don’t forget ANZAC Day is on Tuesday April 25th
It’s been quite a busy term but a positive start to the school year. I look back over the term and have already seen some success in our school. I have enjoyed my first term as the Substantive Principal. Thank you for all your encouragement and support throughout this term.
Easter is a special time for me. I know it is the same for many of you. I hope that you can take some time to reflect this Easter—no matter your beliefs. I hope that these holidays are a time where you can relax and enjoy your families.

A group of 5/6 children went bowling at Thornbury Bowls club in a tournament against Northcote Primary School. Thornbury won and that team will now go on to the State Final at Darebin Bowls Club. Congratulations to the whole team and Stephanie, their coach!
Fitzroy Stars Paul Stewart and Northcote Cougars Steve Harford, ran workshops on Monday looking to recruit players for their junior teams. It was a fantastic day.

Building Communities Together!
This term the 3/4 Mainstream classes have been investigating what makes a great community. As a part of our learning we have worked together to design and build our ideal communities. We invite our friends and family to visit our classrooms to view our fantastic projects.

T.I.M.E. Drum Set Teacher Releases Brand New CD (EP)
On Saturday March the 25th John Milton, Thornbury’s drum set teacher, will be celebrating the release of his brand new EP with a live performance at The Fitzroy Pinnacle (251 St Georges Rd, Fitzroy North). The EP, titled “Part 2” has four original songs written and recorded at the same time as his debut EP “Part 1” (2015), and as a companion piece, shares themes such as love, loss, and a little bit of crazy. The EP is already released digitally and can be listened to at www.hearjpsing.bandcamp.com or by searching for “jp part 2” on Spotify.
At the live launch on March the 25th John, under his stage name “jp”, will be singing and playing percussion at the front of his worldly, funky all-star band. Support is provided by jazz guitarist / songwriter Bec Goring and kicks off at 4:00pm. Entry is FREE.

The 2017 Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open! All T.P.S. students are encouraged to participate in the Challenge, inspiring them to read more widely, more often and to develop a love of reading!
What is the Premiers’ Reading Challenge?
For students from Foundation to Year 2 the challenge is to read or experience 30 books (including 20 books from the PRC book list) and for students in Years 3 to 6 the challenge is to read 15 books (including 10 books from the PRC book list). Visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc
The Challenge finishes on 6 September so there is plenty of time to enjoy reading! How do we get started?
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll. Please sign and return the form below to receive your PRC username and password so you can enter books online.

Working With Children Check
Just a reminder that anyone who is helping out needs a current Working With Children Check. Just go to www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au
You will need to bring your card to the office as we need to keep a copy on file.
CSEF APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) commenced in 2015 for four years and will provide payments for eligible students to attend camps, sports and excursions.
Families holding a current Health Care Card are eligible to apply. $125 per year is paid for eligible primary school students.
New families to our school are asked to speak to the office staff about completing a form. CSEF application forms are now available at the office, please make your application as soon as possible for processing
