“Cuttin’ It” – Q & A after theatre performance at the Young Vic

The National FGM Centre held a Q&A after the performance of “Cuttin’ It” at the Young Vic theatre on June 7th. Cuttin’ It — a joint production between the Young Vic and the Royal Court — is about two teenagers living in England, both originally from Somalia, with different attitudes to FGM. Campaigner and FGM Survivor Sarian Kamara joined us for the Q&A session after the performance.

House of Lords briefing on lack of FGM prosecutions

Question to the House of Lords by Lord Berkeley of Knighton on June 6 2016:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what steps they intend to take in the light of NHS statistics showing that in 2015 over 1,000 cases of female genital mutilation were reported every three months and the lack of any successful prosecutions to date.

The National FGM Centre provided an extensive briefing to the House of Lords in response to the above question.

“Between Two Cultures”: A Rapid PEER* Study Exploring Migrant Communities' Views on Female Genital Mutilation in Essex and Norfolk, UK

This report will share the findings from a rapid PEER study, carried out by migrant women and men living in Norfolk and Essex, UK.  

*PEER is a qualitative, participatory research methodology, particularly effective when working with marginalised or minority groups. It sheds light on insiders’ perspectives on behaviour, beliefs and risk perceptions
