The late deadline for show entries is today, June 1st.

NALJA board applications have been extended to June 10th.

POWER Conference applications are due June 15th.

If you have any questions, contact
Katie Campbell, director of activites, at 303-220-1693, ext. 43.

Animals must be registered in order to show. We do not issue pending registration numbers or certificates. Please keep in mind that DNA takes 2-3 weeks to complete and the lab does not offer any rush service.

President Begert has slated the nominating committee for new board candidates in 2017. Ex-Officio, Chad Settje, will chair the committee. The remainder of the committee members consist of Mat Lewis, Warren Symens, Bob Mitchell, Gordon Schuppe, Ronn Cunningham and Roger Vorthmann. Interested parties have until August 15th to contact a member of the nominating committee to express their interest in running for an open position on the NALF board of directors.

As a reminder, please see below for rules changes enacted January 2015 regarding AI sires, donor dams and genetic defects.

AI sires and donor dams born during or after 2015 will be required to have a high density (50K or greater) SNP profile. Sires must be parent verified and dams must be sire verified.
Since NALF-DigitalBeef is capable of tracking and display of genetic conditions, the rules regarding testing requirements for genetic conditions have been adjusted to a monitoring policy. Testing will be required on AI sires, donor dams and natural service sires if they have the potential to be a carrier of a genetic condition monitored by NALF. Testing of progeny of those animals will only be required if no sample or test result is available on the parent. All animals' carrier status or potential will be available online. Progeny of carriers or potential carriers will be registered and their status displayed on the animal search page. Foundation cows (cows of unknown genetics) or their progeny will continue to be required to be tested for six genetic conditions before progeny can be registered (with the exception of steer progeny).
The shift to a monitoring policy will allow membership to breed around these conditions as they see fit while maintaining full transparency of genetic potential and test results for genetic conditions. This policy leaves the testing decision on animals for the individual member while most effectively using membership and association dollars to test the highly influential animals in the populations.
