"Scaling up" of efforts in building resilient LGUs urged

DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento has underscored the need to ‘scale up’ not only in disaster preparedness, but also in building the resilience of communities.

He said that among important efforts that should be made are the retrofitting of bridges in support of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH); utilization of the Geographic Information System to simulate if a structure is on top of a faultline; and stricter enforcement of compliance to the new Building Code.

First Oplan HANDA caravan for ISFs
in Muntinlupa held

As part of the government’s commitment to prepare Metro Manila’s informal settler families (ISF) on disaster, the DILG held its first Oplan Handa caravan on June 21, 2016 at Dioko’s Pavillion, Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa City, which was participated by some 200 ISFs currently residing in East Kabulusan Creek. Metro barangays pledge community-based disaster preparedness

Leaders from 104 barangays in 10 Metro Manila cities pledge to stand up for urban resilience by continuing and sharing community-based disaster risk reduction management (CBDRRM) taught to them through partnership among the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Australian Aid (AusAID), and the Disaster Risk Reduction Network-Philippines (DRRNet-Phils). DILG R3 holds orientation, live testing on database for projects

PAMPANGA – Focal persons and IT officers from the different DILG field offices in Central Luzon were oriented on June 7, 2016 on the harmonized database management system for locally-funded projects (LFPs).

Cagayan Valley households benefit from Salintubig projects

TUGUEGARAO CITY – A total of 8,801 households in Cagayan Valley Region are now benefitting from 20 completed potable water projects in waterless municipalities and barangays under the Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig para sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG) program, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). P162M KALSADA project in Iloilo on-going

ILOILO CITY – Travelers along the provincial road in Iloilo will soon have better journey as the P162-million KALSADA (Konkreto at Ayos na LanSAngan ang DAan tungo sa Pangkalahatang Kaunlaran) Project is on-going in the province. According to DILG Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento, the said KALSADA project includes concreting of 15.3 kilometers JNR Badiang-Ilajas-Moroboro-Lincud-Rumagayray-San Enrique Road that connects the three municipalities of Anilao, Dingle and San Enrique in the province of Iloilo. PNP acquires trucks, ready for rainy season

The Philippine National Police has finally procured 48 units of brand new utility trucks sourced out from the Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) fund for CY 2014, for distribution to the different Police Regional Offices (PROs) and National Support Units (NSUs).

These utility trucks will be used to support troop movements and deployment, and other special operations such as civic actions, relief and search and rescue (SAR) operation, Internal Security Operation (ISO) and other related activities.
