China 2016 Final Economic Report
(source: Embassy of Switzerland in the People's Republic of China)

China’s annual GDP growth has consistently slowed since 2010. It has been underpinned by a major economic transformation, which was conveyed by its leaders under Chinese Communist Party (CCP) General Secretary Xi Jinping during the 18th Central Committee’s Third Plenum in 2013. The term “New Normal” was adopted during the Fourth Plenum in 2014 to describe the desired shift from government stimulus and export goods towards a domestic consumer demand-driven and services-oriented economy.

In China, 1 single child is responsible for 2 parents and 4 grandparents!
China's demographic developments will create growth opportunities and challenges for both the private and public sectors. As the structure of society shifts, it will require more and new solutions to fund and care for the elderly. Understanding consumers' very personal needs around insurance and care can help companies enter and innovate the complex China market. One size doesn't fit all, and each industry will have to focus on its strengths within the context of how the ageing ecosystems are being reshaped. Read more
