Membership Registration Open!

Please register at https://stoa2016-2017.homeschooldebate.net/.

(Speaking of registration, your Stoa membership dues have been slightly increased by $5. This small increase will fund the development of software for universal registrations and for speech ranking. The goal of the Stoa board is to develop and test the software this academic year, and employ the new software by tournament season 2017-2018! If you want to contribute more to Stoa’s software development efforts, you can become part of the project here: http://stoausa.org/donate/)

Okay. It's confusing. (Though not as confusing as soccer... )

Gateway to the New Season

Stoa Academy was a great success! We had an awesome time of learning and fellowship. In case you missed it, St. Louis was the home of our 2016 Stoa Academy. This is our annual event to nourish and replenish Stoa parents and coaches. We were treated with amazing hospitality by Lisa Carper, her crew, and the Pillar Foundation for our time of refreshment and renewal for the new season. Our speakers from all over the country inspired the participants and gave “hot off the press” information regarding the new season.

The time was also extremely valuable to the Stoa board, the speech committee, and the debate committee as this venue allowed for the members of these groups to come in a few days early and have face to face meetings before the academy started. That was a very productive time and much planning was accomplished as we look forward to the new season.

If you weren’t able to join us, please be thinking ahead now to summer of 2017 so that you can be a part of this unique event. We hope to announce the date and location later this fall so that you can make plans to join us for the next Stoa Academy.

To God be the Glory, Great things He had done!
Your Stoa Academy Co-Chairs,
Angela Childress and Mary Winther

Stoa Culture: Walk in Love

Ephesians 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.  And walk in love as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.  (NIV)

When Mary broke the alabaster jar and poured the contents over Jesus’ head, the disciples cried out in indignation, but Jesus’ recognized the fragrant offering for what it was. (Matt 26:13)

Stoa is more than a speech and debate competition; we are a part of the church representing the body of Christ to an unsaved world.  At the same time we are to exhort and encourage one another in our Christian walk.  As we start this new season, remember at every club meeting, at every class, and at every tournament, we are to be imitators of God.  Let every part of our walk, including our behavior in speech and debate, represent that fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Until Next Time...
