Monash Room Exhibition Program

Earlier this year the Consulate launched the Monash Room Exhibition Program, giving Australian artists the opportunity to exhibit their work at our New York premises. From a broad range of applicants, four exceptional artists were selected for the program; John Aslanidis, Sara Morawetz, Jeremy Edmiston and Jemila MacEwan.

Arts and culture has a vital role to play in strengthening Australia’s reputation as a creative and sophisticated nation. Through this program of work we aim to promote collaboration between Australian artists and international partners, while also generating awareness for our talented featured artists.

John Aslanidis: Sonic Series 2005 – 2011

John Aslanidis is the first artist to exhibit at the Consulate through this program.  A respected Australian artist, John's works are a celebration of his relentless aesthetic optimism. The vibrant colours and concentric patterns give the impression of a pulse, as if each painting has a very loud heartbeat.

John will host an artist talk at 5pm on Wednesday 7 December at the Consulate. If you’d like to meet him and hear more about his practice, please register your interest via email at nycg.events@dfat.gov.au.

Young New Yorkers

The Consulate was pleased to host a Young New Yorkers (YNY) event exploring transformative justice. YNY is committed to bringing positive systemic change to the way teenagers are prosecuted as adults in New York State. Guests at the event heard from three successful graduates of the program, who openly discussed youth justice and other issues. YNY was founded by Rachel Barnard, an Australian and former architect.

Dr David Putrino and Dr Dylan Edwards are two Australian scientists working at the forefront of technology in New York. David and Dylan visited the Consulate recently to talk about their work, which has the potential to transform how we deliver healthcare to those in need. From robotics to mobile applications, they explained how scientists are blending technology with medicine to restore patient function, enhance human performance and lead us into an age of personalized care.
