WINTER NEWSLETTER 2016
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at the BDS!

We are supporting Rare Disease Day next year as Ledderhose is classed as a rare disease. If you have Ledderhose and would like to get involved with Rare Disease Day please get in touch  to find out more.

NICE UPDATE

We recently attended two different NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) meetings on behalf of Dupuytren's disease patients.

There was a meeting to discuss the guidance for radiotherapy for Dupuytren’s disease which currently is limited. This means doctors can prescribe radiotherapy but it is not considered to be a regular treatment option.
Anecdotally we know many patients who have seen improvements after radiotherapy so if you are considering it as a treatment option do get in touch for more advice.

There was also a meeting about Collagenase (Xiapex). Discussions are still ongoing and we await a final decision.

PLANS FOR 2017
We recently had a trustees meeting where we decided on our plans for 2017. Following the meeting will be attending a British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) meeting in February to interact with doctors, we are in the process of setting up our first Medical Advisory Board and are looking to make some improvements to our website.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF HAND RESEARCH!
The British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) along with the James Lind Alliance (JLA) are undertaking a survey of the questions that people with any experience of common conditions of the hand or wrist, and the health care professionals who treat them, consider important to be answered by research in the future.  Please answer their survey by the end of December here.
