Deep South Challenge News - September 2016

Welcome to the first edition of the Deep South National Science Challenge newsletter. In each issue you’ll find the latest news about the Challenge's science projects and people, opportunities and events, engagement initiatives, and funding announcements.

This newsletter contains links to our refreshed website.  Visit our website to learn about the five programmes of the Challenge: Earth System Modelling and Prediction, Processes and Observations, Impacts and Implications, Vision Mātauranga, and Engagement. These programmes work closely to deliver our mission, to "enable New Zealanders to adapt, manage risk, and thrive in a changing climate.”

Working with communities and industry, the Challenge brings together new research approaches to determine the impacts of a changing climate on our climate-sensitive economic sectors, infrastructure, and natural resources. This will be underpinned by improved knowledge and observations of climate processes in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica - our Deep South - and will include the development of a world-class earth system model to predict Aotearoa/New Zealand's climate.

This newsletter is collated by the new Deep South Challenge Engagement team.  To share your stories or give feedback, please email the Engagement team.
