Specialist Training Program (STP) funding:
Expressions of Interest open October 12

Specialist Training Program (STP) funding – Expressions of Interest now open The expression of interest (EOI) online portal for Specialist Training Program (STP) funding is now open on the Department of Health website.

Training sites interested in being considered for future STP funding now have until 30 November to submit their EOI.

Currently the Department of Health funds a total of 900 training positions through the STP program. CICM has 17 of these, which includes three positions reserved for the anaesthetic component of intensive care training.

There are no additional training positions available at the moment, so training settings that lodge an EOI and are assessed by the colleges and jurisdictions to be potential suitable STP posts will be placed on the reserve list to be managed by the relevant specialist medical college. Posts on the reserve list may be funded in the event that a currently funded position is unfilled or does not go ahead for some reason. The colleges will be responsible for managing the reserve list in consultation with the department.
The Department have indicated that assessment of potential STP training sites will take into account (but not be limited to) consideration of:

  • Accreditation for vocational training by the relevant college
  • Rural/Regional location
  • Local workforce distribution needs and educational imperatives

Further information is available via the Department of Health website. If you would like to speak to someone at the College about this, please contact Phil Hart at philh@cicm.org.au
