MEET THE PACK

Have you met Rachael Slate?

Hi Pack Mates! I’m Rachael Slate and I write sizzling fantasy romance. My stories blend the lines between mythology, reality, and fantasy. In my worlds, you’ll encounter strong, sexy alpha males and the capable women who challenge them. And always, scorching hot romance.

I live on the West Coast of Canada with my husband, two children, cat, and dog. When I’m not writing, or plotting my next book, I’m probably thinking about food. I love cooking, baking, watching cooking shows, and eating. If I weren’t an author, I’d probably be a baker. I also adore the outdoors—running, hiking, canoeing, camping, swimming, etc—so that helps to offset my culinary obsession!

Thanks for being such awesome pack mates <3

Interview

The book that launched my career was...

Trancing the Tiger (Chinese Zodiac Romance series, #1). This book is especially meaningful to me because it’s set in Malaysia—where my husband is from—and features a hero who is Chinese (like my husband). Trust me, the hero, Sheng, is one hot Tiger. Rawr!

On my first trip to Malaysia, I was so inspired by the gorgeous scenery that I just had to write a story set there. I’ve visited (and daydreamed in) all of the (real) locations mentioned in the series. Yes, I’m excluding Diyu (Chinese Hell) because it’s definitely not someplace on my travel list! In Trancing the Tiger, Sheng meets his match in Lucy, the Rabbit, and sparks fly in every direction. They have to fight every step of the way for their love and they’ll come out that much stronger for it. Their story (and the entire series) has been so much fun to write.

After her parents become infected with the Red Death, Lucy Yeoh flees to Malaysia seeking answers. Everything in this closed-off section of the world is paradise--from the lush tropical climate to her sexy new neighbor, Sheng...who just might be delusional. He claims the Plague God unleashed the Red Death and only a circle of Chinese Zodiac spirit animals can cleanse the Earth. Even more, he insists she's one of them: the Rabbit. Long furry ears and fluffy bunny tail included.

The book that made me cry was...

Earth Borne (Halcyon Romance series, #2). I definitely shed a few tears while working on this one. I put the hero (Thereus) through so much in that book, even I wasn’t certain he’d get his happily ever after. But don’t worry, he does, and not a day goes by that Thereus isn’t eternally grateful for his mate, Melita. These two have one of the sweetest happily ever afters and reading it always makes me smile (through the happy tears).

Melita is married to the centaur, Lord Thereus. Or at least she pretends to be. The ruse has been easy, until the presumed deceased Thereus returns. To save his lands, she committed treason. But that isn't the worst of her secrets. To protect her heart from the lethally charming Thereus, she'll have to risk claiming his...

The hero I want to find in my bed is...

Um, all of them? At once? No? Okay, if I have to pick just one, I’ll say Liem, from Never Match a Dragon (Chinese Zodiac Romance series, #7). Because he’s a dragon, and yeah, that would be hot! He’s a lot of fun to banter with, has a wicked way with the dirty talk, and let’s not forget about that dragonly stamina! Beneath all of that, he’s actually very tender, generous, and devoted. But I’m not really sure his heroine, Jade, is willing to share him…

Tonight should be like any other night on the job for matchmaking apprentice Jade Tan. Except the woman who's supposed to meet her mate stands him up instead, and the gorgeously furious dragon Liem Long demands Jade take her place. But what begins as a harmless fill-in date soon erupts into a devastating--and disastrous--passion.

When will your Halcyon Romance series and Chinese Zodiac Romance series end? Do you have any other series planned?

Hmm, never? I think I love both of these worlds too much to ever let them go. As of right now, both series have quite a few books published, and even more in production! Maybe, someday, they will end, but currently I have too many books planned for that to happen. Whew!

And yes, I do have several other series waiting (very impatiently) on my computer for their chance to be released out into the wild :)
